I write and deliver performance poetry workshops in a variety of settings. These have included working with secondary school children on the theme of reminiscence.
A workshop for secondary aged children for Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week and an adult workshop entitled, ‘My Mind, My Thoughts’ for Beverley Literature Festival 2019.
The purpose of the workshops is to encourage the participants to both write and perform their own work in public. In the case of the secondary school children writing on the theme of reminiscence they did a wonderful opening performance for the Beverley Literature Festival in 2018.
My workshops are fun, informative and interactive. The work is based on the participants own experience with the licence to use their imagination in for their story to have a greater impact. The participants work individually, in small groups and as a whole group. They discuss ideas around the agreed topic for the work and perform a new poem they have written to the group by the end of the day. I’ve been absolutely delighted by the standard of work produced.
I have also run creative writing groups for The Pause Project in Hull, The Together Women’s Project in Hull and worked with young people accessing the services of The Warren in Hull. These young people went on to perform at The Hull Freedom Festival on themes of slavery and acceptance.
If you belong to a group or an organisation which may be interested in a workshop please contact me for details and to discuss your requirements.
